Gratefully, I spent three summers of my life in the Canadian wilderness with at-risk teenagers. Every part of this experience: from not having plumbing to backpacking trips with bad attitudes, has made me who i am today. We all know church kids have problems, but sometimes they are harder to deal with because kids cloak their middle finger instead of just plain sticking it up at you. God knows my heart and he knows that the middle finger kids are some of my favorites. He also knows how i love to be in the mountains, even if it's only Oklahoma. i am privelidged to be a guide for The Mountain School Teen Adventures. It is an organization started by a couple at my church to take kids in the court system out into the wilderness as part of their rehabilitation. For their first adventure we took them to Elk Slab in the Wichita Mountains in southern Oklahoma...at 800 ft., it's the tallest climb we've got! They loved the experience and we certainly loved them. Here are few photos of the day.

Cal, you DO look happy! And should we be surprised? Don't worry, we predicted that you'll somehow get to the mountains sometime in your life...
MARIA! You're my heroine.
