I forgot to put the Winter Olympics on my list of things I am excited about for 2006. I don't think I have missed an opening ceremony since I was little. Watching the countries march in has shaped my intrigue and mild obsession with seeing every part of the world. In college we joked about my love for the human spirit, but there is something about the Olympics that makes humanity in all its weakness look simply beautiful.
One of my dreams is to be at the opening ceremonies someday or even to carry the torch.
For now I'll settle for seeing the rings and hearing the Olympic theme every time I turn on the t.v. And probably crying when Bob Costas narrates a story of a Russian figure skater whose family lived off one loaf of bread to pay for her to train...The human spirit...
